Christmas Card: History: Who Sent the First Card

(0)
Have you ever wondered why we send Christmas cards, or why not every country sends cards? When was the first card sent? Who sent the first Christmas Card? How many Christmas cards are sent each year? In this video I'll answer some of these questions as I explore the history of the Christmas card. This session is based on a video (History of the Christmas Card | Who Sent the First Card) with real life explorer and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society Sarah Weldon. LEARNING OBJECTIVES (KEY STAGE 1-4 HISTORY): 1. gain historical perspective by placing their growing knowledge into different contexts, understanding the connections between local, regional, national and international history; between cultural, economic, military, political, religious and social history; and between short- and long-term timescales. A more technical resource than my usual ones, but I hope it will bring genetics to life in a more interesting way for students who are passionate about the wider world, oceans, animals, natural sciences, and marine biology. Would make a great addition to World Oceans Day topics, as well as science, English as a foreign language, and the human life cycle. Or just for fun. This is a free PDF download to accompany a YouTube video on the same topic, Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlm2gfuLZIY&list=PLd9pxOIcWRI0WLk0y2KrxhDg0Hw5C-Pxd&index=14 Please leave me a review and I will send you any other resource of your choice for free (contact me: office@oceansproject.com). Christmas Folklore: Krampus: Half Devil, Half Goat

(0)
In folklore the Krampus (half devil, half goat) would roam the streets on the eve of the 5th December looking for naughty children to punish. Sometimes he would carry a pile of birch twigs to beat them too. He might travel on is own, or with St Nicholas who had his own Feast and festival on the 6th December where good children were celebrated. Krampusnacht is still celebrated in some European countries today. Print out and colour in this sheet to explore Christmas and Christmas traditions around the world.
